At the 12th International Documentary Film Festival „CINEMA VERITE“: Screening SPK COMPLEX on December 10th, 2018
The festival will be held December 9-16, 2018 in Tehran, Iran
Det begynte som et selvorganisert eksperiment i gruppeterapi med psykiatriske pasienter ledet av doktor Wolfgang Huber. I starten var fokuset på å ta Hegels tekster aktivt i bruk i terapien, men etter hvert ble gruppen mer radikalisert. Enkelte av medlemene gikk under jorden med den venstrepolitiske terrorgruppen Røde Armé Fraksjon (RAF).
SPK Komplex undersøker et lite kjent kapittel i vesttysk historie og gir et nyansert bilde av det sosiale klimaet rundt gruppen gjennom omhyggelig utforskning av dokumenter og grundige intervjuer med tidligere medlemmer.

Sinopse:
O Colectivo Socialista de Pacientes (en alemán Sozialistisches Patientenkollektiv, e coñecido polas súas siglas SPK) foi unha organización esquerdista de pacientes psiquiátricos da Policlínica da Universidade de Heidelberg, fundada por Wolfgang Huber en 1970. Combatía a medicina e aos médicos como inimigos de clase, vía o capitalismo como a causa das enfermidades físicas e mentais e usaba a enfermidade como arma contra a sociedade capitalista.
As acusacións de apoiar a RAF, e por tanto de ser cómplice do seu te- rrorismo, agochan as principais e vangardistas liñas de traballo do movemento SPK: os dereitos dos pacientes psiquiátricos, a resistencia e o empoderamiento, cuestións que aínda hoxe seguen a ser relevantes.Complexo SPK céntrase na historia non contada dos acontecementos previos ao “outono alemán”. Unha historia de tolemia, percepción pú- blica e violencia (in)evitable.

Canadian Premiere at „Rendezvous with Madness“Festival in Toronto.

This year’s Mad To Be Normal (our 2017 opening night film; a portrait of anti-psychiatrist R.D. Laing) is a fascinating documentary of a radical anti-therapy group. In 1970, Dr. Wolfgang Huber and a group of patients founded the “Socialist Patient’s Collective” (SPK) in Heidelberg, Germany. Controversial therapy methods, political demands, and a massive interest in the movement from patients deeply distrustful of conventional “custodial psychiatry,” led to run-ins with the University of Heidelberg and local authorities. Their experiment in group therapy ultimately ended in arrests, prison and the revocation of Huber’s license to practice medicine. SPK Complex shares the untold story of events before the German Autumn; connecting the dots from Germany’s failure to address its Nazism after WW2 to present day inadequacies of the “modern” psychiatric system.

Here the jury verdict: For the strictly psychiatric competence, the social usefulness and the ability to look back in the complicated consequences of the past, following a non-linear perspective, but widely usable, Clara Sereni Award goes to SPK Komplex by Gerd Kroske.
SPK KOMPLEX eröffnet das Perrugia Sozial Filmfestival am 20. September um 21:30 Uhr.
Der Film läuft dort im Wettbewerb um den PerSo Award.

Im Rahmen von MOVING HISTORY SPEZIAL (20.-21.09.2018) und der Vorstellung der zweiten Ausgabe von MOVING HISTORY – Festival des historischen Films (25. bis 29. September 2019 in Potsdam) zeigen die Veranstalter am 21. September 2018 den Film SPK KOMPLEX (D 2018) von Gerd Kroske. Der Film war bei der Premiere des Festivals im September 2017 noch im Entstehungsprozeß und konnte nur in Werkstattgesprächen gezeigt werden. Im Anschluss an die Filmvorführung stellen sich die Regisseure den Fragen der Gäste im Filmmusum Potsdam. Das Gespräch mit Regisseur Gerd Kroske und Lutz Taufer moderiert Dr. Christoph Classen (Projektleiter am ZZF Potsdam und Gründungsmitglied von „MOVING HISTORY – Festival des historischen Films“).
